MicroControlUnit - The System EP - FBI Recordings

The seventh release off FBI Recordings comes from Belgium's MicroControlUnit. 'The System EP' features a mixture of hard electro beats juxtaposed by dense melodies - all working in symphony to take the listener to wasted landscapes of some not-too-distant cold, lonely electronik future. I think the formula FBI Recordings has set works - label head Morphogenetic described it in his City of Bass Interview a few years ago, but the gist is they don't release a lot, they release on vinyl and when they do release, they clearly work with the artists to craft a piece that will stand the test of time. Vinyl is a decision, but you could apply the same methods to digital labels as well. Taking great care of the product you put forth, whether it's physical goods, art or music - that's a timeless formula that separates the serious from the laissez-faire crowd.

For me, the standout cut on the EP is the Morphogenetic Remix of 'Save The World' - the melody and arrangement on this is so strong, you could cut out the percussion completely and still have an entire crowd of folks swaying in unison if played in the right place with the right DJ.
