last night I was experimenting around while watching a Computer Music mag production master class with drum n bass homie Clipz... lo and behold, his tip of bouncing audio down, resampling it and putting it back in helped make the drums really stand out.
[1] built a custom kick/snare combo from my arsenal, and ran it through a Scream unit with good tape compression settings
[2] Bounced this down, and re-imported it back in as a 4 bar loop with NN-19
[3] This already sounded better than the straight midi, but then I ran it through another instance of scream and this really made the drums punch through.
what I love most about music production other than the actual act of creativity itself, is that eureka moment when you figure out something new. Yeah, folks have been doing this for years, but it doesnt really affect you till you see it/figure it out for yourself!
