I'm b-boy rocking to an 80's station in Sirius XM as I do some chores round here. Hearing these old tunes that I grew up with reminded me of the anticipation of heading to the store to cop a new album - unwrapping it it in the ride and popping it in the cassette player.
Then listening to it repeatedly in the walkman until the next album came out. good times! I have more music than ever available to me now, at my fingertips, or in the internets enabled cellular, but that thrill of getting the latest joint is mostly gone.
Of course, this might have to do with folks focusing on singles rather than cohesive albums..... I'd be curious to pick the brain of some 16-18 year olds to ask them questions on how they view music, and how they listen to it. For example, I'm still big on listening to an album all the way through, I dont really skip around too much - is that old school?
