hip hop production....

this weekend was supposed to be my wrap-up the next ep weekend. due to illness, I wound up sleeping a lot, laying low and just didn't have the energy to dump into mixdown and arrangement. Instead, I messed around with my Trigger Finger and finally figured out how to do MPC style hip hop production with the TF. I dont know why its taken me this long, but what I love about Reason (and I guess it could go for any program) is the longer I use it, the more I learn about it every year. In this case, I finally figured out how to map the TF pads to REX slices - I downloaded a brilliant demo from Time+Space's hip hop collection and was off doing Premier style groove production. This definitely has opened my eyes to new ways of making music, as I mostly have been programming my own drum beats using RedRum and using the synths for sound generation.

The one thing I cant get over though, is I still feel like it's cheating to use pre-made Rex Loops in your track - how do you make them your own? I'm looking forward to exploring this more over the coming months.. and I definitely want to buy the Rex loops sample pack linked above.. but at 78 UK pounds, that is a grip of money...
