hitting the sweet spot in the mix

as I've been working on tracks, I've been using Robb Neu's spectrum analyser tool for Reason. One thing I noticed is that I always seem to be good in the low range and high range, but my mid's are lacking. I've tried EQ techniques, swapping out instruments and my music always seems to be bass heavy and high's heavy.

Now I dont know if thats a function of my damaged hearing (thanks 14 years of DJing) or what, but I sure could use some collaboration with someone who knows what they're doing.

Its not like my finished tracks dont "sit in the mix" when compared to other established artists, but they dont have the full breadth/width of sound that the "pro" tracks do.

I wonder if its really a case of my mixing and instrument selection, or if its something that could be addressed in a pro mastering session.
