jump up to get down

last night I came home and had a flurry of creativity - I jumped on the Gruppe 909 project and got closer than ever to getting these tracks down. As a backfill, back in 2005 I and my partner in crime Lex Luthor worked over a period of 2 months to prep tracks for the live PA we did for our then DJ/promotion crew PTLF. The project languished as we worked on other projects, but we always had it in our head to put it out, even if its 4 years later :)

The biggest stumbling block was getting the Reason tracks up to snuff - they worked fine in the live PA context, but back in 2005 I will be the first to admit that while I had it in me to laydown some nice tracks, I knew diddly squat about production techniques and sound quality - its been quite a task to rebuild the tracks using proper techniques, and I've even gone around to replacing some of the sound samples and synth patches to help beef up the sound. Just as an example, back then I didnt understand about routing the various drum channels to seperate mixer channels even - so everything drum related would be on ONE channel in the mixing board.

In any case, last night I put in some good work to get some of these tracks rolling, and we decided to release the Cubase prepped tracks (all produced by Lex) as part one of the gruppe 909 project - I'm hoping we can drop this friday.

I took Lex's master wav files last night and dumped them into cubase for final EQing and sound matching for consistency, and its sounding great. I've got the groove going with the part two portion (the reason tracks) and hopefully we can drop that sometime in March... and of course the BluBlocker Rockers project that we've been working on as well...

all in all, I feel fired up in the studio, and thats always a good thing!
