programming drums off the grid

this tutorial from music radar about programming drum loops off the grid is pretty interesting. a basic concept, but how many people go out of there way to do this?

you can of course do the same thing with a midi editor. or create a rigid traditional drum loop and then use a glitch like effect and automate disruptions...
