Winter Sadness

Once I got out of the club and rave years of DJing, I went back to my roots in a roundabout sort of way - I had originally started with hip hop, which in turn led me to all the original soul and funk records that made hip hop happen. So after all the dance scene s--t died down for me, I went and played for 2-3 years in small dive bars doing DJ sets from open to close. It was probably my favorite period of time out of the 10 or so years I actively played out. No more ego's and me-first and that's-my-timeslot nonsense - just playing records for six hours to people who wanted to get drunk and have a good time.

I used to open these dive-bar sets with Kool & The Gang's 'Summer Madness' but had never even heard of this great tune below. Hip hop fans will instantly recognize the riff of course, but this original brings to mind sipping cognac and ridin' wide in a 72 'lac. Which if funds permit, maybe I'll be doing this summer.
