DVS NME - Metastasis LP

The new long player from DVS NME has gotten extensive play on the City of Bass playlist, repeat play even, and for good reason: it gets deep, it tells a story and it flows. You can tell the music has been crafted from a primal need to express some passion inside the artist.

It's an album that reflects longing, sadness.. all through a finely-crafted sonic layer and juxtaposition of electronic beats and beautiful melodies. DVS has flirted with ambient soundscapes in the past, but has really nailed it on Metastasis by creating an entire album of lush strings with the right stripped back percussion elements to keep things moving.

This album tells a story, and despite all the darkness and loneliness expressed in the music, throughout is a current of hope and possibility that ties everything together.  The only mis-step here is the sequencing/placement of the first two tracks .. the LP really gets going come the 3rd track, and would have been more complete if trimmed a bit. It's not that the first two cuts aren't quality - they just don't fit on the album, but that's always in the ear of the listener, isn't it?

This one's on the City of Bass recommended list and is an essential electro LP for 2012. Cop it here directly from the artist's bandcamp.
