[Editorial] A Short Observation on Music Blogs

I love writing, and I love discovering and sharing music - running City of Bass has really allowed me to fulfill a side of myself that I hadn't know existed a few short years ago. Now that I'm in my 3rd year of doing this, I finally truly understand why you see so many music blogs posting about specific name artists and labels constantly - it's for the traffic. I definitely can see what gets eyeballs and visits to the site versus what doesnt - ultimately that doesnt matter for City of Bass, because the whole point is to share what gets my head boppin' ie kopfnicken, not what gets eyeballs.

But ultimately it is a little disconcerting - the internets was supposed to be the great equalizer, but in the end even though artists can have a global reach, what gets pushed is whats demanded by the audience, and what they demand is names they already know. Even if I get this blog up to big-time big-willie major player status, a goal that I'm not sure I want to chase, even then .. if I push some unknown artist I know a good percentage of the audience will pass. A "name" blog drop? Visits all day.

There's no real point to all of this to wrap it up neat and tidy, just making an observation. All that to say, big shouts to my steady readers who are into discovering new and dope music - you brothers and sisters are the reason I'm still doing this. REEEEEEESPECT!
