slice it and dice it - problems with complex Recycle loops

I heard an old hip hop song from 1994 that has a fantastic groove that immediately gripped me with the thought of "speed it up, slap some 808 electro beats and off we go"

I went to work with a 4 bar loop of the tune, complete with the funky synths, beats and little vocal ad libs by the MC in question (no I'm not sharing what loop it is :)

I know that I know how to slice loops, but this one is giving me tons of problems. The original BPM is 106, so for a 128 BPM electro bass tune, its not a stretch to bump it up 22 BPM. But not matter how I sliced it, no matter how meticulous I was, the loop still came out choppy when played back at speed. I messed around with the stretch settings, Release settings on the Dr. Rex player, and still no dice!

An audio engineer gave me the tip of using some light reverb on the loop itself, that would help fill in the gaps and get rid of the choppiness. I'm going to give that a go tonight and see if it works.
