Perfecto Fluoro Label Retrospective Mix - DJ Mad Wax Archives

This drop is a continuation of posting mixtape archives I'd released during my grand and glorious decade of being a superstar DJ years. During the early and mid 90s, after the explosion of the house scene, Paul Oakenfold moved on to push the forward thinking sounds of Goa trance. Without going into the politics of why some within the scene cursed this exposure, all I really cared about was the end result of a number of high-profile as well as low-key releases on the Fluoro sub label of Perfecto Records.

I stopped effing around with trance somewhere around the beginning of the epic soaring string years, but for a while there I was really in love with the goa and frankfurt sounds. Although the label output was not prolific, the sheer quality and presence of many of these records remain unsurpassed in the trance genre. This label retrospective focuses on these records, some well known, some not so. In an attempt to avoid simply re-creating a Paul Oakenfold set circa 94/96, this mix was done using many of the b-side remixes and relatively unknown tracks, sprinkled with the classics that made the Fluoro label well known.

As an aside, a lot of British heads still gush over how amazing the Courtyard portion of Cream was during his famous residency, but I was always more enamored of the year before, when he ruled the Annex and played the Fluoro sound. There are a few clubs I would love to visit if I had a time machine: The Annex during Oakenfold's time there, the Paradise Garage with Levan, Omen in Frankfurt when Vaeth rules the roost, and the Music Box in Chicago with Ron Hardy, but that's a story for another time.

A very special thanks to EMML's Paul Rouse for the support and encouragement, and for helping me to find a good chunk of these records back in the day.. Good looking out, Paul!

Also, to give you heads who are spoiled with instant downloads a taste of the old days, before I could track down the vinyls, I paid some price-gouging-idiot smart businessman good loot for CD-R copies of these. CD-Rs! Enjoy!
